Medallion Racing and MyRacehorse have acquired an interest in leading Kentucky Oaks (G1) candidate Street Band.
The daughter of Istan is the recent winner of the G2 Fair Grounds Oaks, and currently ranks third on the Kentucky Oaks leaderboard. She is trained by Larry Jones, who campaigns the Kentucky homebred filly with his wife, Cindy Jones, and Ray Francis.
Larry Jones is a three-time winner of the Kentucky Oaks with Proud Spell, Believe You Can, and Lovely Maria. He has had tremendous success with fillies, including Horse of the Year Havre de Grace.
“Street Band seems to be improving at the right time, after drawing off to win by almost four lengths in the Fair Grounds Oaks,” Medallion Racing Manager Phillip Shelton said. “Our goal is to provide our investors with the very best of American racing, and there is no bigger stage than the Kentucky Oaks. Larry has a great track record in the Oaks, and is an unbelievable horseman. We are very excited to partner with him on Street Band.”
Street Band shipped to Churchill Downs following her Fair Grounds Oaks victory and has posted two five-furlong workouts at the Louisville track. In her most recent work on April 22, she covered five furlongs in 1:00.40, which was the fourth fastest of 35 works at the distance.
Street Band will be ridden by Sophie Doyle in the Kentucky Oaks. Doyle has been aboard Street Band in her last five starts, including the Fair Grounds Oaks victory.
“Street Band's performance in the Fair Grounds Oaks was super impressive. We were looking for an opportunity to offer fans an ownership stake in the Kentucky Oaks,” MyRacehorse Founder Michael Behrens said. “The fact that Larry Jones is her trainer sealed the deal. MyRacehorse.com is about giving fans the opportunities to have ownership in great horses with great horsemen. Street Band and her team are a perfect embodiment of exactly that.”
