In 1970 Dust Commander won the Kentucky Derby with jockey Mike Manganello on board and on Saturday, Manganello joined Hollywood Gaming, the Mahoning Valley Racecourse jockey colony, and the track's patrons in an event to support the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund.
2019 marked the first year Mahoning Valley Racecourse and the PDJF have partnered to raise support for the cause with Manganello and current jockeys signing autographs throughout the afternoon. All told, the autograph signing and silent auction offering racing and sports memorabilia raised $1,800 for the PDJF.
“Overall it was a fun and successful day,” said Mark Loewe, Mahoning Valley's Vice President of Racing. “The PDJF is a very important and worthwhile group that we are happy to work with. We look forward to continuing this relationship in the future.”
