Longtime East Coast trainer John F. Scanlan died Jan. 8 at the age of 68. The multiple graded stakes-winning trainer of Toccet and Dinner In Rio saddled winners of 766 races from 5,968 starts during a career that began in 1974.
According to his obituary, Scanlan is survived by wife Lynn (nee Hackett) of 42 years, sons John F. Jr., and Patrick E. (Kristina), granddaughter Maeve Frances, his brother Ronald (Donna), and his sister Patricia.
A visitation for Scanlan will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13 at the John F. Givnish Life Celebration Home (10975 Academy Road, Philadelphia) from 2 p.m. to 4.pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in John's memory to the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (trfinc.org).
