Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens entered the winner's circle again this weekend, following time off to recover from hip surgery. On Saturday at Santa Anita Park, Stevens guided Shehastheritestuff to victory in the sixth race on the card for trainer Paddy Gallagher. It was the third race he had ridden since his hip replacement.
“I found out last week that I was going to ride this filly. Paddy was pretty high on her and told me to just settle her as much as I could, keep her relaxed,” Stevens said. “I watched her last three races and she settled very nicely for me today. She has one hellacious kick.
“The first win back after an injury is always the toughest. ‘Let's go racin' folks!'”
