Juvenile champion Shanghai Bobby will make his 2013 debut in Saturday's G3 Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream Park. Co-owner Starlight Racing hopes to get fans excited about the colt's quest for the Kentucky Derby with a Twitter contest for fans. The contest is called a “Twitter Treasure Hunt”, during which followers will use a set of clues to locate Shanghai Bobby's connections at Gulfstream.
Fans attending the races Saturday can follow the horse's Twitter account @ShanghaiBobby10 for clues after the first, fourth, and seventh races directing them to the Starlight Racing team. The first three fans to find the group will win a Shanghai Bobby prize pack, which will include a t–shirt and other merchandise.
In addition to his Twitter presence, Shanghai Bobby has a Facebook page updated regularly from the horse's perspective.
“We wanted to do something fun to celebrate the start of Shanghai Bobby's 3-year-old campaign, and to share it with his fans,” said Starlight Racing's Elizabeth Ovelman. “We also thought it would be fun if it came from him, since he likes to use Facebook and Twitter.”
A solid 4-5 morning line favorite for the race, Shanghai Bobby will break from the rail with regular rider Rosie Napravnik. The son of Harlan's Holiday was a $105,000 purchase from the Keeneland September sale as a yearling and is co-owned by Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor, and Derrick Smith. A Todd Pletcher trainee, Shanghai Bobby will make his first start since his win in the G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Santa Anita on November 3.
