Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens will begin riding at Santa Anita on Thursday, May 17, after enjoying a successful winter campaign at Oaklawn Park where he won 25 races and accumulated purse earnings of more than $1.7 million.
Stevens, still going strong at the age of 55, has won the Kentucky Derby three times in addition to 10 Breeders' Cup races.
His agent at Santa Anita will be Tony Matos, who will continue to represent Evin Roman, Eclipse Award winner as outstanding apprentice of 2017, currently recovering from a fracture on his left foot. He is expected to resume riding in a few weeks, Matos said.
Stevens, a four-time Santa Anita riding champion, has more than 5,000 career victories and won an Eclipse Award as the nation's outstanding jockey in 1998.
The native of Caldwell, Idaho, was inducted into the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame in 1997.
