‘Great And Talented’ Ocala Horseman J.B. McKathan Dies

Longtime Ocala horseman J.B. McKathan has died at the age of 53, reports ocala.com.

McKathan and brother Kevin were responsible for breaking and starting 2015 Triple Crown champion American Pharoah, as well as Kentucky Derby winners Silver Charm and Real Quiet since the beginning of the McKathan Brothers Training Center in 1988.

“We are shocked devastated to hear of the untimely passing of J.B . McKathan,” wrote Ahmed Zayat, owner of American Pharoah, on Twitter. “JB was a great friend and integral part of ZAYAT stables success over the years. A great and talented horseman. Our thoughts and prayers are with Leigh, Kevin, Chris and entire McKathan Family. RIP.” ⁦
