Florent Geroux won more stakes than any other eligible jockey and was named Jockeys' Guild Foundation Detox Jockey of the Week title for September 4 – 9, 2018. The award is voted on by a panel of experts for riding accomplishments by members of the Jockeys' Guild, the organization which represents more than 950 riders in North America. Florent Geroux took full advantage of the recently opened 2018 Kentucky Downs meet, winning two of four graded stakes offered on Saturday. He won the feature race of the day, the $750,000 Calumet Farm Kentucky Turf Cup Stakes (G3) with Arklow ($15.80), upsetting favorites Oscar Nominated and Bigger Picture.
Earlier in the card, he won the $450,000 Kentucky Downs Ladies Sprint Stakes (G3) with Ruby Notion ($8.20), again defeating the post-time favorite, Lull. He also finished second aboard Valadorna in the $500,000 Kentucky Downs Ladies Turf Stakes (G3).
Geroux rode at Indiana Grand on Wednesday and picked up a stakes win there as well in the $200,000 Indiana Grand Stakes with Beyond Blame ($3.60).
With $917,440 earned in eight stakes starts last week, Geroux led all North American jockeys by stakes earnings. He was also the leading jockey by total earnings, adding $977,010 to his 2018 total of $16.5 million. His career earnings to date exceed $76 million.
Geroux won four of his 18 starts for a 22% win rate and was in the money on 44% of his mounts. In 2018, he has 138 wins in 670 starts; in his career to date, he is 1,318 for 8,130.
Due to holiday racing schedules for the Labor Day holiday weekend, statistics used for this week's ballot included Tuesday, September 4 through Sunday, September 9.
