With back to back Stakes wins, Daniel Centeno was voted Jockeys' Guild Foundation Detox Jockey of the Week for February 3rd – February 9th. The award is voted on by a panel of experts for riding accomplishments by members of the Jockeys' Guild, the organization which represents more than 950 riders in North America. In addition to maintaining a 25% win rate for the week, Centeno also hit the board on 50% of his mounts.
The six-time leading rider at Tampa Bay Downs kicked off his week on Wednesday by winning on the first-time starter Peace Taker ($10.80), and continued his winning ways on Friday, taking the opener aboard Doc Kane ($4.40). Centeno was quick to get back to the winners' circle on Saturday, just lasting in the first half of the Daily Double aboard Rattlesnakerose ($4.40) and completing the Double aboard Princess Brienne ($6.20).
With two wins under his belt, Centeno entered the $150,000 Lambholm South Endeavour Stakes (G3) on longshot Jehozacat. The Venezuelan put the gray mare on the lead and prevailed under strong handling, returning $35.60 for trainer Arnaud Delacour. Centeno returned to the winners' circle in the very next race aboard the Delacour trained Lucrezia ($13.80), winning the 40th edition of the $100,000 Suncoast Stakes just two fifths off the stakes track record.
Centeno finished the week with six wins, two seconds, and four thirds for earnings of $200,203. The journeyman has been victorious 2,908 times out of 15,846 career starts with his mounts earning a total of $58,812,405 to date.
