For Ken Ramsey, Thank You Marylou is a Very Special Filly

Thank You Marylou wins the Tippett Stakes at Colonial Downs

Last weekend, the 2-year-old filly Thank You Marylou drew off in the stretch to win the Tippett Stakes at Colonial Downs in her career debut. The chestnut daughter of Birdstone already has all the markings of being a very talented filly.

For Ken Ramsey, who co-owns the filly along with his wife, Sarah, Thank You Marylou is already a special filly, and one that means a great deal to the couple.

Several years ago, the Ramseys met Marylou Whitney and her husband, John Hendrickson, at Saratoga. As always, the ‘Queen of Saratoga' was very gracious and cordial, and after first meeting as acquaintances, the couples soon became friends, as Nick Hahn writes in The Racing Biz.

That friendship extended ‘above and beyond' anything expected when, in 2007, Sarah Ramsey suffered a stroke. Whitney, who had also suffered a stroke the year before, flew her doctor from California to Florida to see Sarah.

“They (Whitney and Hendrickson) very well may have saved my wife's life,” said Ramsey in all seriousness.

Shameless Ramsey always a wannabe – tries to say he is a relative of the Queen of England
in order to meet her – tries to meet the Queen of Saratoga – get the picture – but a real lucky bum.

You have no idea what you’re talking about and sound like a fool.

Ken isn’t a wannabe anything as he’s accomplishing it all. He might be colorful and historically speaking that is exactly what this sport is chocked full of. To dismiss what he’s accomplished by investing in this business and taking high risks as being simply “lucky” you miss the mark.

Real classy guy you are yourself there Mike.

I just don’t understand these Ken Ramsey haters, unless it’s just plain envy. He seems like a marvelous fellow, enthusiastic about everything. You can tell a lot about a man from how he treats his wife, and he has been devoted to her by all accounts through this health crisis. I wish him every success, and find myself rooting for the silks with the big R any time I see them. He’s not shameless, he’s just fun!

Mrs. Whitney is the epitome of class. She will always be one of the most special people in horse racing and in our world. I wish there were more like her. Here’s to you Mrs. Whitney!

Mary Lou Whitney, a true patron of racing and sport.
Isn’t she celebrating her 150th this year??
Just kidding, MLW is one of the nice things about Saratoga.

The people here defending gap-toothed are all getting their palms greased by that cheapskate.
