Saratoga-area Standardbred trainer Joseph DeCarlo was suspended “indefinitely” by the state's Gaming Commission following his arrest on charges of animal cruelty.
DeCarlo is accused of cruelly overdriving and abusing a Standardbred gelding, resulting in internal and external injuries to the horse's mouth. The horse is reportedly recovering from his injuries.
DeCarlo's case with the Commission is awaiting a date with a gaming commission administrative judge who will determine whether the suspension should continue.
Joseph DeCarlo is not related to jockey Christopher DeCarlo.
