Jockey Angel Cruz broke his left hand during a spill in the fifth race at Saratoga Race Course on Monday, according to a Daily Racing Form report.
The fall took place when Cruz's mount Steve's Image, a first-time starter spooked away from a horse to his inside shortly after the start. Cruz lost his balance and fell onto the firm turf course. He was transported by ambulance to Saratoga Hospital, where medical personnel determined he had no fractures in his neck and spine.
Agent Bill Castle said Cruz will miss the remainder of the meet.
