Canterbury: Hermann to Become Nation’s First Female Track Announcer

by | 08.23.2013 | 1:22pm

A unique bit of history will be made on Sept. 7 at Canterbury Park when regular track announcer Paul Allen is away working on the Minnesota Vikings broadcast. Angela Hermann will step in for the day, and thus become the first woman to call an entire race program in North America.

While there have been a few occasions recently where a woman has called one specific race – Los Angeles sportscaster Kristine Leahy became the first woman to call a race in California when she guested at Hollywood Park in July – never before has a woman been an official track announcer and called the entire card.

Hermann currently works as Canterbury's paddock analyst. She told the Daily Racing Form “This was something I was always interested in doing but never thought that it would actually happen.”
