Longtime Australian Thoroughbred trainer Bruce Purcell was placed in a medically induced coma Friday after being kicked in the head by a horse, the Herald-Sun reported.
The incident reportedly happened while the 76-year-old was unloading horses. He was airlifted to a Melbourne hospital.
There were more developments this week in Australian, when it was revealed that 20-year-old jockey Tahlia Hope is in intensive care with viral meningitis. Both the trainer and jockey were planning to participate at Caulfield on Saturday.
