Trainer Steve Asmussen has horses in training at Santa Anita, Fair Grounds, Oaklawn and Belmont. But he's a Texas boy at heart a cherishes his stable of fifty at Sam Houston Race Park. And while he admits the new shorter boutique meet at Sam Houston is more expensive for trainers, if it's good enough for Texas racing, then its good enough for him.

“It seems like the trend is toward the shorter meet,” Asmussen said. “It's more expensive for trainers to ship in for them. I don't like that part of it. But I'm partial to Texas racing. If shorter meets are good for Texas racing, I'm absolutely for them.”
