Apprentice rider Michael Ritvo, in his first start in Maryland, won the eighth race at Laurel Park on Friday aboard Winter Lady, as reported by The Baltimore Sun.
The 20-year-old jockey, who moved his tack to Maryland from Gulfstream Park a week ago, is the son of former jockey Tim Ritvo and Breeders' Cup Classic-winning trainer Kathy Ritvo.
“It is an excellent way to start,” Ritvo said. “The horse was just as cool as can be. She just sat in the pocket. There was no reason to rush with so many horses around her. When there was room we went and she just cruised.”
