Robin Burns has called 75,000 in his career as a track announcer. He's planning to add a few more to that total this summer, after 10 years off from the sport.
Burns is back in the booth at Presque Isle Downs in Erie, Pa. He had a brief stint at the track in 2008 before deciding he needed to do something else for a while. Burns moved to Florida and worked as a caddy manager at a golf course. Recently, however, Burns told Erie News Now the pull of the announcer's booth became too strong.
“I really wanted to come back in the worst way.” Burns said. “I'm just so happy to be back here.”
Burns has called races at tracks around the country, starting with the Standardbred track, Buffalo Raceway, near his childhood home of Niagara Falls, N.Y.
