TVG, America's Horse Racing network, will create special programming to promote the inaugural Pegasus World Cup Invitational (Gr. I) and will be live on-site at Gulfstream Park in the run-up to the world's richest horse race. The $12-million Pegasus World Cup on Jan. 28 was created by The Stronach Group and is expected to have the two top-ranked horses in the world in the starting gate – Kentucky Derby and Dubai World Cup winner California Chrome and Breeders' Cup Classic champion Arrogate.
As part of its efforts to support the Pegasus World Cup, TVG will invest more than $300,000 into programming, feature content and coverage at Gulfstream Park for nine straight days as well as broadcasting live from the track pre- and post-NBC's live network coverage of the Pegasus. TVG's programming will include the one-hour feature “Pegasus Cup: The Grand Experiment” and highlight Pegasus participants and its unique stakeholder approach where each position in the starting gate carries a $1 million price tag. TVG programming will be geared toward growing interest and participation for fans, bettors and stakeholders across the horse racing industry.
“The Stronach Group is a longstanding valued partner for TVG and we are excited to collaborate with them to draw attention to this unprecedented racing event,” said Kip Levin, CEO of Betfair TVG. “Our experience shows that when TVG puts its programming and promotional weight behind big events that it helps raise interest, awareness and wagering for everyone, including at simulcast facilities and at other advanced-deposit wagering platforms. The Pegasus World Cup represents the innovation and foresight that are the hallmarks of The Stronach Group and its leadership and we are proud to be working with them.”
“The Stronach Group is truly appreciative of TVG's show of support for the $12-million Pegasus World Cup by dedicating special content and coverage of the world's richest race for nine consecutive days,” said Mike Rogers, vice president of operations for The Stronach Group.
“We're very excited about the Thoroughbred industry's enthusiastic response to the inaugural running of the Pegasus, most notably TVG's considerable investment in bringing the most anticipated race in many years to its nationwide viewership,” Rogers added. “TVG's dedication of time and resources to put a spotlight on the Pegasus World Cup will greatly contribute to the success of our one-on-a-kind event.”
“We appreciate the effort TVG is putting behind the production of its special programming for the inaugural running of the Pegasus World Cup,” said Jack Wolf, CEO of the Pegasus World Cup and co-managing partner of Starlight Racing. “Christina, Caton, Simon and the rest of the TVG crew have done such a great job in the past. We look forward to them all making this a special broadcast commemorating this historic event.”
