McKinzie and Mike Smith win the opening day Malibu on Dec. 26

Gulfstream Park is in talks with McKinzie's connections about a vacated slot in the Pegasus World Cup starting gates, according to the Daily Racing Form's Marty McGee.

The berth, the 12th and final spot in the $9 million race, opened up after trainer Brad Cox withdrew Leofric due to a minor injury.

Here is the latest list of confirmed runners for the Pegasus: Accelerate, Audible, Bravazo, City of Light, Gunnevera, Kukulkan, Patternrecognition, Seeking the Soul, Something Awesome, Tom's d'Etat, and True Timber.

The 4-year-old McKinzie has won five of seven starts, earning more than a million dollars. The Street Sense colt, trained by Bob Baffert, finished 12th in the Breeders' Cup Classic but bounced back to win the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes in his latest start.

The field for the inaugural $7 million Pegasus World Cup Turf isn't set but contenders include Yoshida, Aerolithe, Bricks and Mortar, Catapult and Magic Wand.
