The Breeders' Cup has come and gone from Del Mar, but life-sized replicas of the “Torrie horse” that sits atop the series' trophies are still sprinkled around San Diego County.

CNN reports about 20 fiberglass Torrie horses were distributed to local artists ahead of the Breeders' Cup in a campaign called ‘Art of the Horse.' Local businesses purchased the statues and artists were encouraged to decorate their horse however they wanted.

“Some [artists] have never been to a racetrack before, which was kind of fun,” said Joe Harper, president and CEO of Del Mar Thoroughbred Club.  “They're not necessarily equine artists, they've just got a blank horse and they do what comes to your mind.”

Some horses feature racetrack scenes, while others are covered with detailed flowers or beach and marine themes.

Nothing goes better together than horses and art. Every one was beautiful, I hope the folks of Del Mar enjoyed them. They have them at every racetrack around the country; they might just peak people’s interest and encourage them to come out to the track even just once.
