John C. Oxley's Spring in the Air swept past Magical Moon in mid-stretch and drew off to win the $400,000 Darley Alcibiades Stakes (gr. I) at Keeneland Oct. 5.
The victory earned the daughter of Spring At Last an automatic berth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) at Santa Anita in November, since it is part of the 'Win and You're In' series sponsored by the Breeders' Cup.
Spring in the Air entered the Darley Alcibiades off a strong runner-up finish to stablemate Spring Venture in the Natalma Stakes (Can-IIT) in her last start. This was the first stakes win for Spring in the Air, who is trained by Mark Casse and was ridden by Patrick Husbands.
Broken Spell closed strongly to finish second, with Magical Moon fading slightly to finish third. Final time for the 1 1/16 miles was 1:44.33 over the Polytrack main track.
