Champion Songbird will be heading back to the Spa for the Aug. 26 Personal Ensign Stakes, owner Rick Porter told on Sunday. The 4-year-old daughter of Medaglia d'Oro will ship to Saratoga the week of the Grade 1, $700,000 race, which will be held at 1 1/8 miles on the main track. It is a Breeders' Cup “Win and You're In” contest for the Longines Distaff this fall at Del Mar.

“I think it was always on the top of our list,” said Porter. “She likes Saratoga. I love Saratoga. I can get to the race. I think it's the best race for her.”

Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, Songbird won both of her starts at Saratoga last summer, the G1 CCA Oaks and G1 Alabama. So far in 2017 she has won both of her starts, the G1 Acorn and the G1 Delaware Handicap, running her record to 13 wins from 14 starts. She will be ridden by regular jockey Mike Smith.

Others under consideration for the Personal Ensign may be Carina Mia, Forever Unbridled and Going for Broke.

Smith may well have another big day on his hands that afternoon at Saratoga: his lineup thus far potentially includes Drefong, West Coast and American Anthem.
