There has been a great amount of discussion recently that champion Royal Delta should take on the boys in the Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I), rather than try for a repeat victory in the Breeders' Cup Ladies Classic (gr. I). However, in an interview with the Blood-Horse, owner Benjamin Leon Jr. confirmed that his champion filly remains on course for the Ladies Classic, with a return trip to the Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) as her long-range goal.
“She is capable of competing with the males, but we have a plan that I don't want to deviate from,” said Leon of Royal Delta's agenda for the Breeders' Cup World Championships.
Leon has no plans to retire Royal Delta as of yet, telling the Blood-Horse, “As long as she's healthy and happy, I think it would be a disservice to her and a disservice to the Thoroughbred fans not to let her run.”
