The $55,000 Mike Sherman Stakes shares top billing with the $75,000 Kenny Noe Jr. Stakes on Saturday at Calder. It may just be an overnight stake, but it could have a big impact on this year's Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (gr. I).
The 6 1/2-furlong sprint has drawn a field of 10 fillies and mares, including 2011 Breeders' Cup and Eclipse Award champion Musical Romance. Trainer Bill Kaplan entered his talented mare in the race, but will not make a final decision regarding running her until Saturday. If she is scratched out of the race, Kaplan has indicated he would work her up to the Breeders' Cup.
“The only reason we're considering running her in this race is to make her better for the Breeders' Cup,” Kaplan told the Daily Racing Form. “She either runs Saturday and breezes once before the Breeders' Cup or she breezes three times.”
