Goldikova was brilliant on the racecourse, winning 14 Group 1 races which included three consecutive editions of the Breeders' Cup Mile. On Saturday, her full brother, Anodin, will try to follow in his big sister's hoofprints and win the 2014 edition of the race.
Like Goldikova, Anodin races as a homebred for the Wertheimer Bros., and is trained by Freddy Head. Anodin has not yet amassed a race record as impressive as Goldikova's, but the 4-year-old colt has finished second in three Group 1 races in France this season.
When asked by the Louisville Courier-Journal if Anodin reminded him at all of Goldikova, Head replied, “No, no they're completely different. He's very kind.”
“She was a brute; she was terrible, awful. She was a champion, but you couldn't like her. She wanted to bite you, she hated men, horses, everybody. He's very kind, a very lovely horse. I like the horse a lot.”
While admitting that Anodin is not as accomplished as his sister, Head feels that the colt has a good chance this Saturday.
“He loves it fast,” Head said. “He's not Goldikova, but maybe you don't have to be this year.”
