Janis Whitham's McCraken recorded a bullet workout over the Churchill main track on Thursday, preparing for the July 30 Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park. The 3-year-old son of Ghostzapper covered five furlongs in 1:00.40 under regular rider Brian Hernandez, Jr. According to drf.com, trainer Ian Wilkes has been extremely pleased with McCraken's progress since his Matt Winn victory.

“He's doing well, doing tremendous,” said Wilkes. “I thought about taking him up to Saratoga with the others, but he's in such a nice rhythm and frame of mind that I didn't want to take any chances on disrupting that.”

The Haskell is a Breeders' Cup Challenge “Win and You're In” race for the Breeders' Cup Classic this fall at Del Mar. Other colts pointing for the race include Classic Empire, Girvin, Practical Joke and Timeline.

McCraken has won five of his seven career starts, including the G3 Matt Winn on June 17. The colt's other victories include the G3 Sam F. Davis and the G2 Kentucky Jockey Club, and he has built up earnings of $472,228.

I like this horse and the trainer … good luck. Hope he pulls off an upset.

I’d say this guy is the horse to beat. Tough race but he comes in with a very nice confidence builder and is certainly capable of beating this group. VERY well managed horse.
If he stays out of trouble, they will have their hands full with McCraken.
