Although it has only been two weeks since the conclusion of the 2017 Breeders' Cup Championship at Del Mar, work is already underway with regards to the 2018 event, which will be held at Churchill Downs for the first time since 2011.
Louisville Business First reports that Breeders' Cup officials met at Churchill Downs Nov. 15, where they announced the formation of the 2018 Louisville Host Committee. This committee will lead the effort to create a week-long festival leading up to the two-day series of races on Nov. 2 & 3, 2018.
The committee will be led by four co-chairs: Jonathan Blue, chairman and managing director of Blue Equity; Bruce Lunsford, chairman and CEO of Lunsford Capital; Dr. J. David Richardson, a professor and vice chairman of surgery for the University of Louisville Physicians and Surgery; and Alex Rankin, chairman of Sterling G. Thompson Co. and a member of the Churchill Downs Inc. board of directors.
Business First reports that several smaller committees will also be formed to focus on events, finance, and community relations.
