A pair of scratches from Breeders' Cup races were announced on Friday, according to bloodhorse.com. Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint contender Its Gonna Hurt was diagnosed with a suspensory injury, said trainer Brian Koriner, while Breeders' Cup Mile hopeful Sharp Samurai came down with a throat infection this morning.
Its Gonna Hurt (Violence), winner of the “Win and You're In” Speakeasy Stakes, will have time off. His defection opens the doors for Wesley Ward trainee Chelsea Cloisters to make the Juvenile Turf Sprint field.
Sharp Samurai, last-out winner of the G2 City of Hope Mile, is expected to make a full recovery but not in time for the Breeders' Cup, trainer Mark Glatt explained. The gelding's scratch allows Mustashry (Shadwell) to make the field for trainer Sir Michael Stoute.
