Expected to be one of the favorites for the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint, Guarana will not make the starting gate after trainer Chad Brown was unhappy with the filly's recent training. According to drf.com, the 3-year-old daughter of Ghostzapper will return to owner/breeder Three Chimneys Farm for further evaluation and some rest.
“This week in training out of her last work I just wasn't happy the way she was moving behind,” Brown said. “I don't anticipate it being too serious, but I can tell you she's not 100 percent.”
This season, Guarana has wins in the G1 Acorn and G1 CCA Oaks on her record, and she was beaten for the first time in her career last out in the G1 Cotillion at Parx.
