Breeders' Cup Challenge Series qualifying races for automatic starting positions and fees paid into the 35th Breeders' Cup World Championships returns this weekend with four Grade 1 stakes races at Ascot, Del Mar and Monmouth Park.
The “Win and You're In” action kicks off Saturday with the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (G1) sponsored by QIPCO at Ascot with the winner receiving an automatic berth into the Longines Breeders' Cup Turf (G1). The 1 ½-mile race is expected to showcase three winners from last month's Royal Ascot meeting. Trainer Michael Stoute is preparing Prince of Wales's Stakes (G1) winner Poet's Word (IRE) and Hardwicke Stakes (G2) winner Crystal Ocean (GB), and Aidan O'Brien is slated to enter Kew Gardens (IRE), who won the Queen's Vase (G2) over the course, and most recently, the Grand Prix de Paris (G1) at Longchamp.
Later that Saturday at Del Mar, Rockingham Ranch and David Bernsen's Roy H., last year's TwinSpires Breeders' Cup Sprint winner, will headline the Grade 1 Bing Crosby Stakes at 6 furlongs for a “Win and You're In” berth into the 2018 TwinSpires Sprint at Churchill Downs.
On Sunday, e Five Racing Thoroughbreds and Stonestreet Stables' Good Magic, the 2018 Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner and 2-year-old Champion, leads the 1 1/8 mile, $1 million Betfair Haskell Invitational (G1) at Monmouth Park for 3-year-olds, for an automatic berth into the $6 million Breeders' Cup Classic. The Haskell will be broadcast live on NBC as a part of the “Breeders' Cup Challenge Series: Win and You're In presented by America's Best Racing” program, beginning at 5 p.m. ET.
Back at Del Mar on Sunday, Don Alberto Stable's Unique Bella, last year's Champion Female Sprinter, leads the $300,000 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes (G1) at 1 1/16 miles with the winner receiving an automatic berth into the Longines Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1).
