Princess of Sylmar wins the TVG Coaching Club American Oaks

Princess of Sylmar will be headed west for a start in the Breeders' Cup Distaff, owner Ed Stanco confirmed on Saturday.

According to a report by the New York Daily News, the Kentucky Oaks winner breezed four furlongs in :48 2/5 on Saturday at Belmont. Stanco, who had previously been on the fence about whether or not to send his stable star to California, had said her workouts and trainer Todd Pletcher's input would be the deciding factors in the filly's next move.

Princess of Sylmar most recently defeated older rival Royal Delta in the Grade 1 Beldame.

I know this is silly second guessing, but I think he should have stuck with his original gut decision. Now watch, she’ll win out by five.

I’ve had the same thoughts, Tiznowbaby. As a fan, I’m glad I will be able to see her race, but perhaps the owner should have ‘gone with his gut’ on this one.

Totally agree. When you switch gears, often it doesn’t turn out well. Good luck to her connections, but believe she should’ve stayed in the barn.

This filly has been underestimated from the start. Bottom line: she defeated Royal Delta. I can’t wait to see her in person.
