Amazombie wins Ancient Title

Eclipse champion Amazombie will gear up for a defense of his Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I) crown when he faces six rivals in the Santa Anita Sprint Championship (gr. I) on Saturday. The winner of the race will earn an automatic berth in the BC Sprint, since it is part of the 'Win and You're In' series.

Formerly run as the Ancient Title Stakes, Amazombie captured this event on his way to winning the Breeders' Cup Sprint in 2011. The Bill Spawr-trained 6-year-old has won two of four starts this year.

Others in the field include the sharp 3-year-old filly, Reneesgotzip, 2011 Haskell Invitational (gr. I) winner, Coil, and Triple Bend Handicap (gr. I) winner, Camp Victory.
