BC Turf: Ellis taking ‘wait and see’ approach with Casino Host

The connections of Casino Host, winner of the Del Mar Handicap (gr. IIT) in August, are taking a 'wait and see' approach as to whether or not the dark bay colt will run in the Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT) at Santa Anita Nov. 3. The victory at Del Mar earned the 4-year-old colt by Dynaformer an automatic berth in the BC Turf since it is part of the 'Win and You're In' series sponsored by the Breeders' Cup.

Casino Host, who is owned by Gary and Mary West and trained by Ron Ellis, was vanned off the racecourse after his fifth-place finish in the John Henry Turf Championship (gr. IIT) last Saturday. A subsequent nuclear scan reveal a minor strain in one of his shoulders.

“It's something we have to monitor,” Ellis said. “He won't do anything if he's not 100 percent.”
