After a decidedly easy half-mile work on Sept. 18 in :49 3/5, 46th out of 69 that day, Arrogate returned to record a five-furlong bullet Tuesday at Santa Anita. Under new work rider Rafael Bejarano the 4-year-old son of Unbridled's Song went in company for a final time of :59 4/5, then galloped out another six furlongs.
“That was good for him,” trainer Bob Baffert told drf.com. “I can sleep tonight. He did it the right way.”
Arrogate has now worked twice since finishing second to stablemate Collected in the Aug. 19 Pacific Classic. Baffert is committed to keeping the big grey colt “happy,” and to keeping “the weight on him.” The colt will not race again until the Breeders' Cup Classic at Del Mar in November, the Hall of Fame trainer confirmed.
Additionally, Pacific Classic victor Collected will not enter this Saturday's Awesome Again Stakes. Baffert intends to enter Cupid and possibly Mubtaahij in the “Win and You're In” contest at Santa Anita.
