Despite a rift that kept trainer Bob Baffert and jockey Martin Garcia apart for nearly six months earlier this year, the two have mended fences and Baffert has named Garcia on several key Breeders' Cup mounts next weekend. According to the Daily Racing Form, Garcia will ride the likely favorite in the Dirt Mile, Dortmund, the speedy 3-year-old Drefong in a talent-laden edition of the Sprint, and Enchanting Lady in the Filly and Mare Sprint.
Garcia breezed Dortmund for his Dirt Mile engagement Sunday morning at Santa Anita, timed in 1:00.79 for five furlongs to earn the rare “breezing” designation from the clockers.
Together, Garcia and Dortmund have won seven of their nine starts, including the G1 Santa Anita Derby and Los Alamitos Futurity; Dortmund is one-for-four with other riders. Garcia has been the regular work rider for Dortmund in recent weeks.
