Top Young Sire Scat Daddy Dies At 11

Grade 1 winner Scat Daddy, who has been one of the top young sires in North America, reportedly died Monday morning at Ashford Stud in Kentucky.

Coolmore released a statement on their official Twitter account, indicating that the 11-year-old stallion by Johannesburg collapsed and died suddenly.

Campaigned by James T. Scatuorchio & Michael Tabor, Scat Daddy won the G1 Champagne Stakes at two, and captured the G1 Florida Derby the following year. Altogether, Scat Daddy won five of nine lifetime starts and earned $1,334,300.

As a sire, Scat Daddy has been outstanding, siring such top performers as G1 winners No Nay Never, Lady of Shamrock, Nickname, Solaria, and Dacita, among others.
