The Rail: Paddy O’Prado in recovery

After a triumph in the Dixie Stakes, the race just prior to the Preakness Stakes, Paddy O'Prado was acting normally, or so it seemed. It turned out that the 2010 standout had actually suffered a career-ending injury when he fractured the upper part of the outside sesamod bone on his right foreleg. Now the multiple graded stakes winner has some easy going in his future.

“For his recovery plan, Dr. Garrity told me with stall rest, Paddy would be walking good as new,” Donegal Racing's managing partner, Jerry Crawford, said. “We'll let him be a horse for a while. And try and get the whole stallion thing sorted out.”
