Coolmore Stud issued an update on St Nicholas Abbey on Sept. 4, and while the multiple Group 1 winner still has a long road ahead of him, he continues to make good progress in his recovery.
The 6-year-old son of Montjeu had initially suffered a fractured right pastern in a routine piece of work at Ballydoyle. The injury was subsequently operated on and held in place by 20 screws and two bone plates.
From Coolmore Stud:
The surgeons at Fethard Equine Hospital couldn't be happier with St Nicholas Abbey's progress to date.
Recently fitted with a lighter and less restrictive cast, he is more mobile and is putting more confident weight on the injured leg.
St Nicholas Abbey's appetite is good and he continues to gain weight. His blood work remains stable and his medication has been much reduced.
