Painted Pony: Unique Yearling to Be Offered in German Sale

One of the yearlings offered at a sale next month in Germany will be this colt by the stallion, I Was Framed.

Buyers at October's BBAG Autumn Auction will have an opportunity to bid on several yearlings that their consignors will claim are standouts. However, in the case of Hip No. 22, that is most certainly the case.

Consigned by Gestut Auenquelle, the colt, already named Nordlys, is by the stallion I Was Framed, and is out of the Inchinor mare, And I.

Not only does the colt hail from the family of stakes winners Sand Vixen (G2) and So Will I (listed winner), he is quite a looker. By the same sire as the flashy Silvery Moon, Nordlys is an overo Thoroughbred.

The BBAG Autumn Auction is scheduled for Oct. 17-18.

WOW! I have seen sabinos but never an overo and especially one so beautifully marked. This is terrific.

Sabino is a type of Overo, so all the spotted and near whites you’ve seen in thoroughbreds are overos. This horse appears to have characteristics of both frame Overo and sabino Overo. The sire of I Was Framed, is Racey Remarque, a very fancy son of the much more minimally marked Patchy Lass. Patchy Lass’s full brother Nite Spot is a frame Overo that is marked similarly to this colt but this one has more white. Ok, enough of that, but I’ve always been fascinated by the genetics of coat color.
