The Ohio Thoroughbred Breeders & Owners announced that the entry date for their Fall Mixed Sale has been extended to Tuesday, Aug. 20.
“We picked up 22 entries three days after the original entry deadline and got five more today,” John Engelhardt, Executive Director of the O.T.B.O., said Monday. “I can't explain it, but it has happened the past two years since we brought the sale back after a decade, people wait until the last minute. Well, now they have another week. We might be a victim of Ohio's success. With the purses at the level they are, some breeders are keeping their horses to race and others – including our leading consignor over the past two years – are putting together packages and selling privately.
“The goal of our sale if to provide a place for the breeders and owners of Ohio to have a venue to sell and buy horses,” Engelhardt continued. “In just two years, from modest numbers we've sold a stakes winner and two stakes-placed horses and several allowance and maiden winners. With the current Ohio program, all of them exceeded their sale price with their first win. While we bring Ohioans together, I want to emphasize that this mixed sale is not restricted to Ohio-bred horses.”
The sale will take place Sunday, Oct. 20 at Majestic Farm in Batavia, Ohio starting at 1:30 p.m. Entries are available at Duaneswingleyauctioneers.com and www.otbo.com. For further inquiries, contact the O.T.B.O. office at 937-723-6026.
