Hip No. 1049, a colt by Macho Uno consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, went to Hill 'n' Dale Bloodstock, Agent for Frank Fletcher Racing Operations for $825,000 to top the fourth and final session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2011 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. The gray or roan colt, whose quarter in :20 2/5 was co-fastest at the distance at last Friday's Under Tacksession, is out of La Defense, by Wild Again and is a half brother to stakes winner Quelle Surprise. The gross sale total of $25,897,400 eclipsed the previous record of $24,565,500 set in April, 2006.
Hill 'n' Dale Bloodstock, Agent for Frank Fletcher Racing Operations also went to $675,000 for Hip No. 1094, a colt by Hard Spun consigned by Hartley/De Renzo Thoroughbreds LLC, Agent. The dark bay or brown colt, who worked an eighth in :10 flat, is out of Light From Above, by A.P. Indy, a half sister to graded stakes winner Strategic Partner.
Hip No. 1137, a filly by Mineshaft consigned by Ricky Leppala, Agent, went to Mark Casse, Agent, for $210,000. The chestnut filly, who worked an eighth in :101/5, is out of Magic Kitty, by Storm Cat, a half sister to graded stakes winner Shawnee County.
Mike Dahir and Sandra Bromagen went to $200,000 for Hip No. 1040, a colt by Congrats consigned by Eversole Thoroughbreds. The dark bay or brown colt, who worked an eighth in :10 2/5, is out of Klondike Kitty, by Storm Boot, a half sister to grade one stakes winner Kip Deville.
Hip No. 1305, a colt by Bernstein consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, was sold to Swifty Farm for $160,000. The bay colt, who worked a quarter in :21 2/5, is out of Orient Pearl, by Manila, and is a half brother to the dam of grade one stakes winner Flashy Bull.
Hip No. 1192, a colt by Trippi consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, was sold to PatriceMiller, EQB Inc., Agent, for $140,000. The bay colt, who worked a quarter in :21 flat, is out of Miss Brown, by Capote, a half sister to stakes winner Clock Tower.
Majestic Racing Stables paid $125,000 for Hip No. 1201, a colt by Friends Lake consigned by Murray Smith, Agent. Out of Miss Shower, by Torrential, a daughter of stakes winner Bishop's Delight, the gray or roan colt worked a quarter in :21 2/5.
For the session, 196 horses brought a total of $6,927,200, compared with 159 horses grossing $4,863,300 at last year's final session. The average price was $35,343, up 15.4% from $30,618 a year ago, while the median price was $17,000, compared with $18,000 in 2010. The buyback percentage was 25.5%; it was 33.8% last year.
For the entire sale, 822 horses sold for a sale record total of $25,897,400, compared with 736 horses grossing $20,547,400 in 2010. The average price was $31,505, up 12.8% from $27,918 a year ago, while the median price was $20,000, identical to a year ago. The buyback percentage was 24.1%; it was 26.2% in 2010. Fifty-two horses sold for $100,000 or more compared with 32 last year.
