Mosler Filly Tops OBS October Open Yearling Sale At $75,000

Hip No. 401, a daughter of Mosler consigned by Sennebec South Farm, was sold to Patrice Miller, EQB, Inc., agent, for $75,000 to top the open session of the 2019 Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. October Yearling Sale.

The dark bay or brown filly is out of Dominus Effect, by Dominus, a half sister to graded stakes placed Corderosa.

Patrice Miller, EQB, Inc., agent, also went to $70,000 for Hip No. 434, a daughter of Dialed In consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), agent. The bay filly is out of Fujiana, by Fusaichi Pegasus, a half sister to graded stakes winner Josh's Madelyn.

Hip No. 384, a son of California Chrome also consigned by Summerfield, was sold to Blue River Bloodstock for $52,000. The chestnut colt is out of stakes placed Curlin's Gold, by Curlin, a half sister to stakes placed Railtown Girl.

Hip No. 480, a daughter of Nyquist consigned by Sequel New York, agent was purchased by Backstretch Farms, Inc. for $50,000. The dark bay or brown colt is a half brother to graded stakes winner Lucky Player out of Janetstickettocats, by Lookin At Lucky.

For the session, 263 yearlings sold for a total of $3,332,400, averaging $12,671 with a median figure of $8,000. The buyback percentage was 24.4 percent.

A year ago, in two open sessions, 296 horses sold for a total of $3,874,750, averaging $13,090 with a $7,000 median figure. The buyback percentage was 23.5 percent.

At Tuesday's selected session, 132 horses sold for a total of $5,784,200, compared with 138 yearlings bringing $5,658,000 at the 2018 Selected Sale. The average price was $43,820, up 6.9 percent compared with $41,000 last year, while the median price was $32,000, a 14.3 percent increase compared with $28,000 in 2018. The buyback percentage was 29 percent; it was 25.8 percent a year ago. Sixteen horses sold for $100,000 or more compared with nine a year ago.

The sale-topper was Hip No. 224, a son of Liam's Map consigned by Select Sales, agent, purchased by de Meric Stables, agent, for $230,000. The gray or roan colt is out of Dad'ssilverpitcher, by Giant's Causeway, a half sister to stakes winner Melodic.

The next item on the OBS agenda is the 2019 OBS Day of Racing, set for Tuesday, Nov. 26. The next sale is the 2020 Winter Mixed Sale, including the Horses of Racing Age section, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 28 – 29.
