Maven breaks his maiden at Aqueduct

Freshman stallion American Pharoah has now sired a Group 3 winner, as his 2-year-old son Maven took Saturday's Prix du Bois at Chantilly for trainer Wesley Ward. Owned by Richard Ravin and ridden by Mickael Barzalona, the colt won the five-furlong sprint by a head, recording a final time of :58.36 over good-to-soft going.

Originally scheduled to compete in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot, Maven was withdrawn due to the soft condition of the turf.

Maven is out of the multiple stakes-winning Any Given Saturday mare, Richard's Party Girl. He was also the first North American winner for American Pharoah when breaking his maiden at Aqueduct in April, and was bought back at the Goffs London sale for £725,000 on the Monday of Royal Ascot week.
