Stakes-placed Michele Royale, owned by Sam and Jo Pollock 's Pollock Farms was euthanized today at Taylor Made Farm in Nicholasville, Kentucky due to infirmities of old age. The 23-year-old daughter of Groovy out of Wise and Happy was distinguished as a broodmare at the track and in the sales ring.
The Pollock's Royale Michele, Michele Royale's 10-year-old daughter by Elusive Quality won the Grade II Barbara Fritchie Handicap in 2009 as a four-year-old with career earnings of over $231,000 then sold a year later at the 2010 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale in foal to Unbridled's Song realizing $700,000.
A lifelong resident at Taylor Made, Michele Royale produced nine foals of racing age, eight to race with seven winners and currently has a yearling filly by Street Sense. In the sales ring Michele Royale's eight yearlings sold for over $2.14 million including her first foal, an Unbridled's Song colt of 1999 that brought $1.4 million at the 2000 Saratoga Sale making him the second highest priced colt at that sale that year.
