California stallion Govenor Charlie was represented by his first winner on Sunday when Side Street Dave won the fourth race at Del Mar, a maiden claimer for 2-year-olds.
Side Street Dave is out of the Street Cry mare Jolly Days, was bred by Terry Lovingier, is owned by London, Lovingier or Zondlo and is trained by Gary Sherlock.
Side Street Dave ran the 5 ½ furlongs in 1:07.73 and won by 1 1/4 lengths at odds of 6-1 in a field of 10.
Govenor Charlie, a 9-year-old son of Midnight Lute, stands at Lovacres Ranch in Warner Springs, Calif., for an advertised fee of $3,000.
He won two of nine starts during his own on-track career for earnings of $506,650. The highlight of his resume is a five-length victory in the Grade 3 Sunland Park Derby, which immediately followed his maiden-breaking win in a one-mile dirt race at Santa Anita Park. Govenor Charlie also finished second in the G2 Strub Stakes.
