In what could be taken as at least a partial thaw in relations, Godolphin ended up going to €1.2 million to purchase a Galileo yearling filly at the Goffs Orby Sale in Co. Kildare, Ireland, on Tuesday.
According to the Racing Post, John Gosden, representing Sheikh Mohammed and Godolphin at the sale, purchased Lot 35, a filly by Galileo out of L'Amour De Ma Vie (by Dansili). Gosden outbid Coolmore's M.V. Magnier for the filly.
The Racing Post notes that the bay filly is the first Galileo yearling purchased at public auction by Sheikh Mohammed since 2004. Sheikh Mohammed's team also bought several yearlings by Coolmore sires at the Keeneland September sale. The purchases mark a possible “change in strategy” by Sheikh Mohammed since the resignation of longtime bloodstock adviser John Ferguson in June.
