Multiple stakes-placed runner Electric Eddie has been retired following a condylar fracture suffered in the California Cup Derby on Saturday. The 3-year-old had surgery to insert three screws into his left foreleg and is resting in his stall at Santa Anita Park.
Trainer Ben Cecil told the Daily Racing Form that Electric Eddie will likely become a riding horse.
Bred in California by J. Paul Reddam and campaigned for Reddam Racing, the son of Square Eddie finished second in the Real Quiet and the Golden State Juvenile last year. He followed those performances up with a fifth-place effort in the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity.
