Hip No 114, a colt by Colonel John consigned by Beth Bayer, Agent, went to Wesley Ward for $220,000 to top the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2012 Selected Yearling Sale. Out of Bon Caro, by Bon Point (GB), the bay colt is a half brother to stakes winner Glitter City and graded stakes placed Wild Forest Cat.
Hip No. 45, Angelus, a colt by Empire Maker consigned by Country Road Farm, Agent, was sold to F.H.M.B. for $180,000. The dark bay or brown colt is out of graded stakes placed Redhead Riot, by Top Account.
Hip No. 134, a colt by Majestic Warrior consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, was sold to Nick de Meric, Agent, for $150,000. The bay colt, a half brother to stakes winner Calico Bay, is out of Countrywishingwell, by Country Pine, a full sister to stake winner Springinthecountry.
Hip No. 123, a Street Sense filly consigned by Kaizen Sales, Agent, was purchased for $140,000 by William Schettine. The dark bay or brown filly is out of Charming Lauren, by Meadowlake, a full sister to grade one winner Greenwood Lake.
Hip No. 88, a filly by Congrats consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, Agent for Cloverleaf Farms II, was sold to Nick de Meric, Agent, for $120,000. The chestnut filly is out of stakes placed Wasted Wisdom, by Gold Fever, a half sister to graded stakes winner Desert Code.
Tom McCrocklin, Agent for Robert & Lawana Low went to $100,000 for Hip No. 172, a filly by Harlan's Holiday out of graded stakes placed Habiboo, by Unbridled's Song. The dark bay or brown filly was consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent.
For the day, 127 horses brought a total of $5,684,000, compared with 114 horses grossing $4,278,000 in the 2011 Selected Yearling Sale. The average price was $44,756, up 19.3% from $37,526 last year, while the median price rose 7.7% from $32,500 to $35,000. The buyback percentage was 28.7%; it was 23.5% in 2011. Six horses sold for $100,000 or more compared with two last year.
The sale continues Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with the first Open session.
