Champion and Hall of Fame member Safely Kept was euthanized April 22 at Burleson Farm in Midway, Ky., due to the infirmities of old age, the Blood-Horse reports. She was 28.
Trained by Alan Goldberg for owners Barry Weisbord and Richard Santulli's Jayeff B. Stable, Safely Kept raced from ages two through five and won 24 of 31 career starts. As a 3-year-old, she won eight of nine races including the G1 Test Stakes, and was runner-up to Dancing Spree in the G1 Breeders' Cup Sprint. She earned an Eclipse Award as champion sprinter that season.
As a 4-year-old she won eight of 10 races, including a heart-pounding victory over Dayjur in the G1 Breeders' Cup Sprint.
