In a recent interview with Talk of the Track, Fred Seitz, Jr. of Brookdale Farm said that his operation is expanding its focus to acquiring more European pedigrees.
“There's a stigma that we use a lot of drugs in racing … so we've adapted a little bit and added a little niche,” said Seitz.
Not only is Brookdale looking for “cleaner” pedigrees, Seitz is also interested in bringing the European stamina into the mix of American offerings. Further, he believes that breeders across the pond are more apt to select for soundness when choosing which horses should be bred after the track.
“That interests us, that interests our clients, and I think it interests a lot of buyers in the U.S.,” Seitz said.
